IMPROVERK: Stian Westerhus/Kittening

  • Kafé Hærverk 34 Hausmanns gate Oslo, Oslo, 0182 Norway (map)

Stian Westerhus

It has been said that Stian Westerhus has little, or no respect for his guitar, but it can surely be argued that he has no respect for music in general!
Stian Westerhus has been at the tip of the spear of his generation for the last twenty years pushing boundaries and stretching the perception of our musical heritage.
Intimately played, like a part of his own body, Stian’s expressive playing and vocals breaks down the barriers of the electric guitar and the lone performer and bends musical meaning.

Kittening

Kittening is a duo formed in 2021 by Alwynne Pritchard and Kjetil Møster. Exploring paradigms for improvising together that include working with text, visualisation, metaphor and movement research, Kittening strives to foreground practices that are often peripheral to music making.

Although Kittening can perform concerts as a duo (voice and saxophone plus violin and clarinet), the project is also an ongoing process of research that is open to input from people outside music (and the arts), as well as to radical shifts in direction. The format of Kittening’s work is flexible and can stretch from concerts, installations, and stage works to lectures and publications. Asking questions about format and context is an ongoing process for the duo, and where these questions might lead, they do not know.

Improverk is supported by Norsk Kulturråd, Oslo Kommune & Norsk Jazzforum.
