I am Dog

I am Dog began life in 2020 as a series of miniature prose poems. It has since developed as a film collaboration between Alwynne (as writer, co-composer and director) and the Italian graphic artist Domizia Tosatto. Additional music is composed by John Lely. The project premiered as both an animation film and a live illustration performance at Litfest Bergen, in 2021.

I am Dog is a fairy tale for teenagers and adults that unfolds through a series of short interactions between a girl called Willa and her friend Dog. Existing in a world of almost complete isolation, Willa and Dog's exchanges are inquisitive, funny, sometimes heroic and often cruel. I am Dog can be read as a kind of internal monologue - two sides of the same personality - or as the antics of two young beings exploring life together.

A new live performance version of I am Dog is currently being developed and will be premiered at Arnolfini, Bristol, in 2024. Alwynne is also working on a paper publication version of the project.

I am Dog was created with funds from Bergen kommune.
